Saved to Receipts
Save photos to a specific folder on Android
Android’s built-in camera apps usually save every photo to one camera folder (often DCIM/Camera), and you sort them into albums afterwards. To have photos land in a specific folder the moment you take them, use a camera app that shoots into folders, such as CamNest: pick the folder, shoot, and the photo is saved there.

Why your phone puts every photo in one place
Most built-in Android camera apps save every photo to the same camera folder on the phone, often called DCIM/Camera. Your gallery app then shows them as one long camera roll, newest first.
Albums and folders in a gallery app, such as Google Photos, are something you add afterwards: find the photos, select them, add them to an album or move them. That works, but it is a separate job, and it is the one that tends to get skipped.
Your options
| Option | When photos get sorted | Good | Not so good |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sort in your gallery app | Afterwards | Built in and free | An extra job every time; easy to fall behind |
| Move files with a file manager | Afterwards | Full control over real folders | Slow, photo by photo |
| Shoot with a folder camera app | At the moment you shoot | Nothing to sort later | One more app to install |
Folder camera apps are the only option that sorts at capture. Several exist on Google Play; CamNest is ours, and the rest of this page explains how it does it.
How it works with CamNest
- Make a folder in CamNest, for example Receipts.
- Tap the folder, or pin it to your home screen and tap the shortcut.
- Shoot. The photo or video is saved in that folder the moment you take it.

Will the photos still be in my gallery?
Yes. Photos taken with CamNest are ordinary photos on your phone and stay visible in your usual gallery app, such as Google Photos. CamNest only decides where they land, and it never uploads them.
